Spring’s Fashion Forecast merges divergent trends, which opens the opportunity to stop adjusting for individual tastes and start creating for them!

Hope and optimism balance disruption and chaos in Spring 2019 runway trends that merge high fashion with street style. Flower power meets grunge, sublime sophistication unites with casual cool and intense reds join with neutrals in a season that sees night-wear by day and a more-is-better approach to hair and makeup.

If this sounds like anything goes, not so. Specific mash-ups predict looks that are playful and polished, whichever way they lean. Think glossy not greasy and you’ve got the first idea.

COLOR HER EMPOWERED

Influences that indicate trends women will wear always start where the designers do: with the Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report. Last year, Pantone’s color of the year was Ultra Violet and the year before that it was “Greenery,” so it’s no surprise that thus far, Pantone predicts ranges of fiery reds and oranges (Fiesta, Turmeric, Coral), softer shades like Sweet Lilac and Mango Mojito, and classic neutrals, including Sweet Corn, Soybean and Brown Granite. The idea, notes the company, was to showcase empowering shades that are joyful and vibrant without being overpowering.

This might mean that red will be the hautest hair color and that blondes will be more buttery, but an opposing idea is that hair color will enhance top fashion shades without mimicking them. The bright red and neon green hair predicted for the holidays are for outliers, and what’s joyful but not overpowering for all is pink, which showed up as one of the sexiest blonde accents on the runways.

Jacobs’ Layered Pastel Hair and Lingerie by Day trend

Marc Jacobs was praised for his playful “layered” pastels that have shadow roots and metallic tones underneath, while all-over hot pink looked as right with romantic “petal power” floral dresses as it did with biker shorts as dress-up wear, which underscored “pedal” power of a different nature.

For those who want fashion shades, dyed hair extensions do the trick without the trouble of bleaching natural locks. In general, it looks like hair color will be anything but natural.

ADJUSTABLE LENGTHS AHEAD

With the ‘60s battling the ‘90s for top style influencer, the mini is back but so is the ankle-brushing skirt, and both are acceptable in any setting. Interpreting for hair, this translates into buzz cuts being as sexy and feminine as super-long lengths...it all depends on the face shape and body type.

If there’s one solid prediction to be made, it’s that bangs will shift shorter—unless, of course, they’re worn long to concealing a few frown lines.
